We've all been there in post where we wish an app we used could do something more or we wish we had a program to achieve something specific. Well, recently after failing to find a good application that could run my workflows I set about building my own local tools to help with post production. Follow this page for updates as they develop!
Avid Assistant Codebook
So you're a 1st Assistant or VFX Editor looking to track your VFX shots / plates, create line-up sheets for turnovers, manage data and quickly update your database with info from Avid, where do you go?
Spreadsheet?
Works fine, up until you have too many shots, or need to ingest hundreds of thumbnails.
Filemaker database?
Very solid tried and true option!
But requires a license from Claris (often a subscription), the knowledge of filemaker to configure it or a friendly colleague to pass you a preconfigured setup.
This App is created by a VFX Editor working on jobs tailored to the needs of what I need it to do. As well as all the usual codebook features mentioned above it has:
-Secure encryption with Apple's FileVault
-AI chat to ask basic questions of the database
-iCloud sync between devices
-Live Sharing between users (coming in future version)

VFX Data creates a csv spreadsheet from an EDL
Caption Converter converts between Avid subCap and SRT subtitle files
Change List creates a formatted list of changes between two EDLs
Optical List creates an Optical List document from an EDL and marker stills
Export Size Calculator will do what Avid won't and show you the size your output will be
VFX Update List creates a list of what VFX shots have been updated since you last exported out
Avid Project Rebuild copies the bins (and only the bins) along with their folder structure from a project to a freshly created one
Avid Maintenance is a tool to help with all the usual fixes for a buggy avid experience
